A young woman (Juliette Lewis) moves into a new apartment that she inherited from her grandmother, who had died there in a bizarre accident. She is immediately confronted by totally bizarre neighbors and someone is obviously out to get her as rats and flies engulf her apartment. But with the array of weirdos around her, who might it be? Everyone warns her to stay away from her upstairs neighbor (Austin Pendleton), but he is the only one who shows any kindness. Supposedly the neighbor below her is an 80 year old woman, but she hammers the floor so hard when the young woman moves furniture that she breaks tiles. Another neighbor (Shelley Duvall) seems kind enough to begin with, but later seems more interfering and threatening. Also her weatherman boy friend (William Hurt) can't be ruled out. Contrary to his desire for her to move in with him, she moved into their apartment. Picture builds suspensefully throughout the beginning, but slips into the expected threatened woman film at its culmination.

This is a remake of Cyrano de Bergerac, one of the most famous plays of the French theatre which is written about Edmond Rostand. Instead of being put in the 17th century France, "Cyrano" "Charlie", a fire chief has been changed in a small town in Washington. Roxanne which is played by nice Darryl Hanna rents a house for the summer to look at comet, and Charlie is taken in by them fast. Charlie is intelligent, funny, and, unfortunately, sensitively, but all his fine qualities are overshadowed by his very big nose ("Do excuse me, that your nose or a coach park on your face acted?"). On the other hand, the friend of Charlie, Chris is quite attractive, but superficial and with words, particularly around women clumsily (he has a trend, a lot hochzuwerfen). Both men are enchanted with Roxanne, but she, in a shallow, but predictable movement, shows interest in pretty Chris. Chris is &mdash dumbfounded around theirs; everything what comes from his mouth is either vulgar or not decipherable. Thus he asks Charlie for the help. Charlie, enthusiastically, writes 3 love letters per day Roxanne which is unknown Chris. The well-spoken letter work of Charlie because Roxanne falls in love with Chris. But Chris cannot correspond to the expectations of Roxanne personally, and he soon runs off with a waitress who is also quite sweet "".
