Biography: Born in Brooklyn, it didn't take long for Kelvin Hale to discover the true meaning of having grown up responsibilities. At the age of 14, Kelvin found himself homeless. He did not allow for this unsettling circumstance to steer him from his life's path. At the age of 14, Kelvin found himself homeless. He did not allow for this unsettling circumstance to steer him from his life's path. After Kelvin graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, he contemplated whether he should join the military service or do something he always wanted to do...become a professional boxer. In 1988, after stopping in the Times Square recruitment office to ask about joining the USMC, he later stopped by the Times Square Boxing Gym on 42nd Street, New York, NY. This circumstance presented a defining moment in his life and he realized that he needed to make a sound decision...USMC or boxing. Kelvin joined Times Square boxing gym in November 1988. That road traveled allowed for him to achieve 2 New York Golden Gloves championships (making it to the Golden Gloves finals 4x), 2 Metropolitan Gloves championships, Empire State silver medalist and additionally a spot on the USA Boxing team fighting Denmark in 1991. He turned pro-boxer in 1997 with a debut bout at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City. This was the first pro-boxing event in the Apollo Theatre's history, est. 1913. He experienced an ample amount of success as a heavyweight fighter and his last fight before his retirement was against former heavyweight champion Oliver McCall in Sarasota, Florida (May 2005). In 2006, after deciding to retire from the ring, Kelvin began to take classes at HB Studios in New York...a new chapter begins. hide |
