| Danny DeVito plays an advertising man who is slowly sliding downhill. When he is fired from his job in Detroit, he signs up for unemployment. | Nikolai Rochenko, a Russian ballet dancer who deserted 8 years ago to the west. He is in an airplane which flies over Russia if all at once a malfunction makes the airplane land in Russia. The KGB says everybody that his injuries are so strict that he must remain, confide for some time. But in reality they want that he returns to them, they bring him to his old flat and an American, Raymond Greenwood who deserted to itself to Russia several years ago is there laid to observe carefully on him. However, Rochenko does not have to surrender before and is to be fled resolutely. So with the help of his former lover he gets word to the Americans. And even Raymond is started to be sobered with Russia, and he must decide whether he is to be done, besides what he was sent to act Rochenko or to help him.
Nikolai Rochenko, eine russische Balletttänzerin, die vor 8 Jahren nach Westen desertierte. Er ist in einem Flugzeug, das über Russland fliegt, wenn auf einmal eine Funktionsstörung das Flugzeug zwingt, in Russland zu landen. Der KGB sagt jedem, dass seine Verletzungen so streng sind, dass er bleiben muss, vertrauen sich eine Zeit lang an. Aber in Wirklichkeit wollen sie, dass er zu ihnen zurückkehrt, so bringen sie ihm zu seiner alten Wohnung und einem Amerikaner, wird Raymond Greenwood, der sich selbst nach Russland vor mehreren Jahren desertierte, dorthin gelegt, um auf ihn aufmerksam zu beobachten. Jedoch hat Rochenko nicht vor aufzugeben und ist entschlossen zu flüchten. So mit der Hilfe von seinem ehemaligen Geliebten bekommt er Wort zu den Amerikanern.
