| Lawyer Rick Magruder has a one-night-stand affair with caterer Mallory Doss. He becomes hooked on her, and when he learns her nut-case father Dixon is threatening her, he puts the weight of his law firm behind Mallory, has Dixon arrested and subpoenas her ex-husband Pete to testify against Dixon in court. | In 1941 America Kay and her husband are happy enough until he enlists after Pearl Harbor. Against his wishes, his wife takes a job at the local aircraft plant where she meets Hazel, the singer from across the way to whom she hadn't previously been all that nice. The two soon become firm friends and with the other girls become increasingly expert workers able to ride the jibes of the male workforce. | The Fortune de Biscuit unfolds on an Easter week-end full of incidents in the small spring city of Holly, Mississippi. The local inhabitants are gentle, nice people - except for Camille Dixon (Glenn Close) - a ruthlessly ambitious theatre manager with a terrifically timid younger sister, Cora (Julianne Moore), from whom the separated girl Emma (Liv Tyler) has just come back to the city. On the heels of his last game, Camille is shocked to discover that his aunt Jewel Mae " the Cookie " Orcutt (Patricia Neal) committed suicide. Terrified in thought how it will tarnish surname, she eats the note of suicide to make it resemble in a break-in. This organisation leads the police to a main suspect, Willis Richland (Charles S. Dutton), who also succeeds in being the best friend of Cookie. Although the rest of the city is persuaded Willis did not commit crime, an external investigateur (Courtney B. Vance) am not yes sure. As the Sunday of Easter and the first night of game comes, the truth leaves, by revealing more secrets that somebody could have imagined perhaps. Manager Altman says his history in a quiet step, by recreating wonderfully the eccentricities of small local life in this soft history - natured.
