| In 1910, acclaimed Russian novelist 'Leo Tolstoy' (qv), in the later stage of his life, works rather than a writer but as the leader of the Tolstoyan Movement, whose basic tenets are brotherly love and world peace through pacifism, and a denouncement of material wealth and physical love. His chief follower is Vladimir Chertkov, who does whatever he requires to advance the cause. Chertkov hires a young man named Valentin Bulgakov to be Tolstoy's personal secretary in carrying out this work. Once ensconced in the life on the estate where much of the work is taking place, Bulgakov quickly learns that many there take from the movement only what he/she wants/believes. Also chief amongst the movement's wants is the deeding of all Tolstoy's writings to the people so that after his death it will become public domain. Tolstoy's wife, the Countess Sofya Andreevna Tolstoy, believes that her husband's writings are rightfully hers after he passes, as she wants and believes she deserves the monetary benefits derived from such. This places a strain between those in the movement, especially Chertov and the Tolstoy's daughter Sasha, and the Countess. Bulgatov acts as the mediator between the parties, he who feels he needs to do what is truly in Tolstoy's heart regardless of what Tolstoy may say or do. Search keywords

| Marcus Aurelius Antonius, philosopher-emperor of Rome, summons his empire's governors and princes to German war headquarters for a Pax Romanus. He confides to his daughter, Lucilla, that his adopted son, Livius, will succeed him instead of his more unstable heir, Commodus. Overhearing this, Cleander, a blind prophet loyal to Commodus, presents Marcus with a poisoned apple. After the funeral, Livius, who does not share Lucilla's ambition for himself or Rome, allows Commodus to proclaim himself emperor. Lucilla marries Sohamus of Armenia. While pestilence ravages Rome, Commodus continues his vain, licentious behavior, neglecting all symptoms of unrest while banishing anyone reminding him of his responsibilities: Livius, Lucilla, Timonides the Greek. |

Search keywords

The Man Who Would Be King (1975) |
| " The Man Who would Be the King" is approximately two ambitious ex-soldiers placed in India who tried to become the chiefs of an entire country. After finishing his trip of the duty in India, Daniel Dravot y Peachy Carnehan they have decided that India is "too small to like them," then they decide to bribe a local chief and start his money, in order to buy twenty rifles of Martini, which they will use to assume villages in Kafristan. They are opposite many challenges and dangers along the way, enclosed difficult area, hostile natives, glacial temperatures, and a high avalanche in the mountains. They finally come to a small people, Urheb, where they find Ootah and Billy Fish, an Indian who speaks English; he then becomes his translator. They then train to the natives of this people to use the rifles, and soon to conquer the village after the people. During a battle, Daniel is struck by an arrow that seemingly sticks of his breast. The ignorant natives believe that he must be Dios not to have died, and to fall down and to begin to adore him. Daniel and Peachy decide that it would be easier for "God" to assume the country, then they feign that Daniel is a God, the son of Alejandro Magno who has returned after 2200 years to govern again Kafristan. The entire country celebrated the return of his new chief, the Son of Second ("Alexander). As a sign of his admiration, the fullest of holes of holy men gives to Daniel all the gold and wealth left by Alexander in 328 B. C. It is enough to do them the men richest in the world. Everything is fine up to Daniel's ego and avarice obtains the best of him. He asks Peachy to double when he walks in front of him. He later says to Peachy that he has decided to remain, and now he believes that he is the son of Alexander ('in the spirit, anyways"), and that to realize his destination, he will marry Roxanne, as his "father Alexander" did not do before him. Kafiri believes that a mortal one cannot marry God, but Daniel goes forward anyhow. Peachy was done to leave with his part of the treasure, but Daniel convinced him to remain "for the good of the old time" for the wedding. In the ceremony, Roxanne, believing that she would die prompt, bites Daniel, drawing the blood. The entire crowd realizes that since Danny bleeds, that he is a man, not God, and that he them has been cheating the entire time. Peachy fills with enthusiasm Daniel and they escape with his twenty soldiers, shooting the monks' crowd that they them tried to kill. They are captured finally, and Daniel is forced to do strike in a rope bridge. The monks cut the ropes, and Daniel with valor falls down to his death. Peachy is crucified later; when they come to see him on the following day, he is still alive, and they say that it is a miracle through that he lived and they reduce him. He finally bends in the vale and recovers at the head of Danny, still taking the crown. He returns it to Rudyard Kipling, a writer for the Star of the North, like the test that Daniel carried out his target, and became the King of Kafristan. The topics developed in the history: 1. ambition 2. friendship 3. capture of risks 4. perseverance (without giving up) 5. to be able 6. honor and dignity.
Search keywords
