| Nicholas Van Orton is a banker of very rich San Francisco, but he is an absolute solitary person, up to spending his alone birthday. In the year of his 48vth birthday (the age his father committed suicide) his brother Conrad, who has gone long ago and has yielded to dependencies on all the classes, suddenly returns and gives to Nicholas a card that gives him entry in the strange entertainment provided by something called Services of Consumer's Reconstruction (CRS). Giving up to the curiosity, Nicholas visits CRS and all the classes of strange and bad things begin to happen to him.
