| It is the mid-1980s. An aggressive Soviet leadership orders troops marched to the border of West Berlin, and then decides to invade West Germany with multiple armored tank & troop divisions. In Lawrence, Kansas - on the border with Missouri - a family is preparing for the wedding of their eldest daughter, and Dr. Oakes (Jason Robards) is keeping busy in his role as chief of surgery in the small University Hospital at Lawrence. These people go on with their daily lives but are drawn closer to the possibility of a nuclear war, as the Russians use a nuclear ballistic missile against a West German city, and then attack a U.S. warship in the Persian Gulf. The Americans strike back by hitting a Soviet ship, and then the Russians hit NATO regional headquarters with a nuclear warhead! People start creating makeshift fallout shelters in their basements, but many are caught off guard when, 1 at a time, nuclear missiles are launched from their silos along the Kansas - Missouri border. USAF officers then announce that 300+ ICBMs are inbound to the U.S., and 2 of them strike Kansas City, Missouri! Many are killed outright, but still more must face the danger of radioactive fallout. Now, the characters we follow are living in a barren, devastated world - devoid of electricity, safe drinking water, and food - and filled with radioactivity, starvation, and disease...in the horrific aftermath of 'The Day After'... | Novelist Thad Beaumount has buried his alter ego George Stark, a pseudonym he used when writing fiction of a darker nature than he would write using his real name. He even stages a mock burial of George for the benefit of the press. When a local man is killed, evidence leads Sheriff Alan Pangborn to George's grave, and he begins to suspect Thad. Meanwhile Thad is beginning to have visions of sparrows flying, something that hasn't occurred for twenty-three years since he had brain surgery. As the string of gruesome murders continue, someone claiming to be George Stark starts calling Thad on the phone. | . Bob and Cindy are in the bed one night if the aunt of Cindy calls and says them that the father of Cindy has had a heart attack. Bob and Cindy make immediately plans to go to Indianapolis to visit the father of Cindy. After hearing of it says Tia annoys Cindy that Tia would also have a heart attack if her family of her moved away, Tia slams her bedroom door in the face of Cindy. With Cindy and Bob which goes to Indianapolis the problem consists in it who will be the baby sitter. Even if Cindy does not like the idea, they choose bobsleighs brother's dollar to babysit Tia, miles, and Maizy. Cindy does not like dollar because she thinks that dollar is a sloppy person who does not know how one does something. While Cindy and Bob are in Indianapolis, dollar takes over the house and to do dollar tried, the best, he is able with the children, while he has problems with Chanice Kobolowski which has been his friend since the last 8 years. Dollar bonds with miles and Maizy and profits her love, but dollar has problems with Tia because he tries to protect Tia against her friend's program error because unknown Tia program error wants only Tia for reason gender.

Nach dem Hören davon sagt Tia verärgert Cindy, dass Tia einen Herzanfall auch haben würde, wenn ihre Familie von ihr abrücken würde, dann schlägt Tia ihre Schlafzimmer-Tür im Gesicht von Cindy zu. Mit Cindy und Bob, der nach Indianapolis geht, besteht das Problem darin, wer der Babysitter sein wird. Wenn auch Cindy die Idee nicht mag, wählen sie Bobs Bruder-Dollar, um Tia, Meilen, und Maizy zu babysitten. Cindy mag Dollar nicht, weil sie denkt, dass Dollar eine schlampige Person ist, die nicht weiß, wie man irgendetwas tut. Während Cindy und Bob in Indianapolis sind, übernimmt Dollar das Haus, und Dollar versucht, das Bestes zu tun, er kann mit den Kindern, während er Probleme mit Chanice Kobolowski hat, der seine Freundin seit den letzten 8 Jahren gewesen ist.
